Conversation Piece: On the 138th birthday of Dagobert Peche with Christian Witt-Dörring

European Arts and Crafts Days

On the occasion of the 138th birthday of Dagobert Peche (1887-1923), probably the most extraordinary designer of the Wiener Werkstätte, we invite you to a discussion with Christan Witt-Dörring. The former curator of the MAK Collection of Furniture and Woodwork was responsible for the first comprehensive Peche exhibition at the MAK in 1998. The catalogs of that exhibition and the current one, with their different questions and approaches, serve as a conversation piece. How has the view of Peche changed over the last 30 years? Finally, we want to toast the artist's birthday together.

THE CONVERSATION PIECES FORMAT
We need to talk! In the Conversation Pieces educational format, we talk to artists, activists, scientists and personalities from various fields of knowledge about selected objects from the MAK Collection. Conversation Pieces is dedicated to topics such as diversity, feminism, participation or loneliness, symbiotic bodies, racism in collections, planet care and much more. We use the MAK as a polyphonic place of exchange and confront various socio-political discourses and problems that allow new perspectives on an extraordinary collection. Conversation Pieces sees itself as an impulse to make common imagery and narratives visible and to critically question them by talking about them together.
