Kateryna Lysovenko (* 1989) studied at the Grekov Art School in Odessa, the National Academy, and the Academy of Media Arts in Kyiv; she has been living in Austria since 2022. Winner of the 2025 Münze Österreich Prize awarded by the Austrian Mint, the artist understands painting as a social action and a political medium—less as an illustration of events, but much more as a method for discovering and interrogating the world. Her suspenseful imagery is based on observations, permutations, fragments from daily life, and the news. Here painting becomes an instrument for renegotiating visibility and reality. Lysovenko employs the tools of reduction and absence; coloration is interpreted as its own space. What results are images that capture moods—antipodes to propaganda.
