Valentina Triet’s video installation Provider is an invitation to viewers on the part of the MAK Collection of Contemporary Art to decipher patterns and codes in fashion. Without naming the designers of the shows, Triet portrays three decades, beginning in the 1990s. By breaking down the catwalk images into pictorial pixels, she blurs identities, while the models’ gestural and dynamic movements generate abstract images that reflect the zeitgeist of the different decades. Simultaneously, they translate the rhythm of the images and sounds into reflections of the female body. Triet oscillates in her artistic practice between the media of film and photography, a feature that is also evident in her videos.
